RFC XI beat HendonA Reading FC XI defeated Hendon on Tuesday night.
The Royals had taken the lead through Aaron Tshibola but were pegged back before half time, only for Dominic Samuel to notch a late winner.
Coach Chris Cummins said, "It was a good game, we had a very, very young team out which was good, first year pros and second year scholars so it was nice for me to see a bit more of them. Both teams played good football and I'll be surprised if Hendon don't do well this season.
"We took the lead when Aaron Tshibola broke through and scored from 12 yards, then credit to Hendon they got a very good goal before half time. We'd had chances so were a bit disappointed to be level at the break. But then we got a winner with 10 minutes to go when Josh Webb played in Dominic Samuel and he finished from 12 yards.
"We've had a few games now, it's not about results but you want a winning mentality and it's given me chance to see the lads, and for them to see how I work and what I expect of them.
"We've had a few lads go out on loan now as well, Gozie, Hector and Angus, so I'm looking forward to seeing them play League football. We've got two games a week at the moment so the younger lads can earn the right to play and make a stamp on this squad."
