Shock and Awe

Mikele: 'We've got a job to do'

Mikele Leigertwood says the Royals are relishing tonight’s battle at the Bridge and insists that, like every game, they’re striving to win it.

The no-nonsense midfielder will be giving Chelsea sufficient respect, but says the Royals will try and cause a shock to the European Champions.

Leigertwood said, “All games are going to be hard, especially when it’s against the European Champions. We’re relishing the opportunity to prove that we’re just as good.

“Of course, we’ll respect them but we won’t give them too much respect. We’ve got a job to do and we want to try and cause an upset.

“If you go out there thinking you’re inferior to them then you’ve lost already. We must go out there with the mind-set that we’re on the same level as them.”

The Royals’ return to the Premier League will truly hit home with the trip to Stamford Bridge, and playing against some of the best players in the world is something that inspires Mikele.

“It’s exciting to be back in the top flight, being amongst the best teams and players in the world. Walking out with them and testing yourself against the best every week is what every footballer wants to do.

“We are enjoying being in the Premier League, but we get enjoyment from winning games – and that’s what we want to do.”
