Skipper's praise for support

The roar of the Royals fans from the famous Shed End on Wednesday evening was deafening, and captain Jobi McAnuff certainly heard it out on the Stamford Bridge turf.

Reading’s skipper has praised the inspirational nature of the club’s travelling support – and is hoping for more of the same at the Stadium of Light.

“The fans were superb on Wednesday, I had to buy a couple of tickets myself, so I know it’s not exactly cheap,” said McAnuff.

“But it was fantastic support for us as always. The away supporters are brilliant up and down the country, and at home the other day it was a great atmosphere which really helped us get a point against Stoke. That’s going to be vital for us.”

Jobi is determined to reward those making the long journey up to the North East this weekend, as Brian McDermott’s men hope to build on a performance that took the champions of Europe to the wire.

“Nobody is content to be a valiant loser; we want to get as many points as we can. We gave such a good account of ourselves for such a long period, so we’re going to go up there and try and get something out of the game. We looked dangerous on the break and had a real good shape for the majority of the game – so now we can take that into Sunderland.”
