Match winner Pavel Pogrebnyak has backed his side to survive in the Barclays Premier League.

The Russian international scored the only goal of the game in the fifth minute of a 1-0 win over West Ham, keeping his cool to slot past Jussi Jaaskelainen for his sixth goal of the season. 

“It was a simple goal, Collins made the mistake, and I scored - I would like that goals were always that simple in my career,” he said

“Of course we’ve had a difficult time, but the Premier League is another world – it is so strong. We must keep going and work hard. I am sure we will stay in the league.”

Manager Brian McDermott also moved to praise is front man following the match. 

"He was terrific. When you're playing against the physicality of this opposition it's not easy and he worked his socks off today.

"Obviously they made a mistake but you've still got to finish it. He can finish, he's proven that in this league when he gets the service. When he gets a chance he hits the target. We've got strikers who can finish, Pavel, Alfie, Noel, Jason."
