Brian urges supporters to ramp up the noise
Brian McDermott has called for Royals fans to create an electric atmosphere on Monday evening, for the visit of Arsenal to Madejski Stadium.
October 30th saw a clash between the two sides that not many will ever forget, a 12 goal thriller in the Capital One Cup, but Reading’s boss admits that he will take any positive scoreline as a reward for the home support.
“The atmosphere against Man United was phenomenal, and I can just ask the fans if they can produce that for us, we’ll try and produce it on the pitch and a get a result for them,” he said.
“I’ll take 7-5 as long as we get the seven and they get the five! But, if it was a 1-0 win for us that wasn’t very good to watch, I think myself, the staff, the players and probably all our fans would take that. We need to make sure we do what’s right for our supporters.”
Brian also had some high praise for the Gunners, his former club – and plenty of backing for manager Arsene Wenger.
“I was there eight years and it was a great time for me, they have great values at that football club. Everything they do is class, that is the word I’d use about Arsenal – class.
“In the last however many years that Arsene has been there – they’ve qualified for the Champions League every year. That’s phenomenal. He’ll be wanting to win a trophy for those fans more than anybody. I’m convinced of that, I know that, he’s a good man.
“Everyone is under pressure, that’s how it is in this league – in every league. All managers want to get results, we’re all judged on results and that’s the only thing that you get judged on. That’ll never change, I completely understand that and accept that. Arsene Wenger, Alex Ferguson, Jose Mourinho – they all understand that.”
