Hal of fame!

Robson-Kanu in team of the week

Royals winger Hal Robson-Kanu put in a scintillating performance against Manchester United last Saturday - and was given the spotlight he duly deserved.

A product of our successful Academy, Robson-Kanu became the first home-grown player to score in the Premier League for the Royals - and, in scoring his third of the season, he was included in both Sky Sports' and ESPN's teams of the week.

Manager Brian McDermott was complimentary of the 23-year-old's display, "I thought he was excellent - he caused lots of problems for United's defence. It was a terrific goal he scored and I thought he was very good.

"He's one of our own - he came through the Academy and I've got a great bunch of people here."

The modest winger was keen to focus on the whole group - and after Brian McDermott's men pushed the Red Devils all the way, Hal is champing at the bit to get going at Southampton this Saturday.

"Of course it's great to have a run of games in the team but it's all about a squad this season," Robson-Kanu said. "The most important thing is the whole group and staying together.

"We showed what we're about against United. It could have been a different result but that's football and we'll kick on from it.

"It's always nice to score in the Premier League - whoever it's against. For me personally, I just need to keep doing what I'm doing and hopefully we'll get some wins.

"We're just concentrating on the next game at Southampton. It will be a challenge but we'll be ready."
