Bournemouth 0-3 Reading
Bournemouth XI 0
Reading XI 3 (Karacan 18, Samuel 49, 61)
Jem Karacan scored on his return from injury as a Royals XI ran out 3-0 winners over Bournemouth on Tuesday afternoon.
The Turkish midfielder came through 65 minutes unscathed and opened the scoring with a cool finish, enjoying his first return to action since suffering knee ligament damage in the 1-0 defeat to Liverpool in October.
A second half Dominic Samuel brace rounded off the win, whilst Danny Guthrie also gained vital match fitness in the centre of midfield.
Development Coach Chris Cummins was able to name a strong line up for the clash, with Ian Harte, Alex Pearce and Chris Gunter amongst the back four – and Garath McCleary adding pace to the midfield.
The visitors took the lead 18 minutes in, as a well-timed challenge by Guthrie allowed Samuel to drive forward, and the young forward’s square ball was stabbed home by Karacan.
Jordan Obita and McCleary were providing plenty of problems from out wide, though the Cherries did make efforts to drag themselves back into the game after the break – only to be denied by a series of blocks by Mikkel Andersen and Academy defender Niall Keown.
The lead was doubled just five minutes into the restart however, as Gunter was bundled over in the box – allowing Samuel to slot home from the spot.
The recent Premier League debutant then put the game beyond doubt on the hour mark – curling home after a neat move involving Guthrie and Lawson D’Ath, who was also gaining vital match fitness to aid his comeback from injury, as he enjoys a loan spell at Cheltenham Town.
Three goals to nil it finished, and a worthwhile run-out for the Royals.
