Royals support ReadiFood

14 December 2012

Donate this Monday evening

Reading Football Club are teaming up with “ReadiFood” on Monday evening, giving fans the chance to donate food to an excellent cause prior to our clash with Arsenal at Madejski Stadium.

ReadiFood is a service provided by Faith Christian Group which has been serving people in real need in the greater Reading area for over 20 years, providing emergency food parcels to those in need irrespective of ethnic or religious background.   For more information, please click here.
Prior to our clash with the Gunners there will be a series of crates located outside of the turnstiles, and supporters are encouraged to bring and donate tinned food – as a gesture of goodwill during the festive season.

Food can also be donated at Madejski Stadium’s main reception.

In recent years Food Banks such as ReadiFood have sadly become a feature of most towns across the country. As the economic situation continues, demand for food parcels increases. As Malcolm Peirce, Director of Faith told us, “Demand for food parcels has increased from an average of 17 per week 3 years ago, to over 60 per week at the end 0f 2012. It requires a huge amount of food to be donated in order to meet the need.”

ReadiFood operates on a referral only basis, so that people can’t just ring up and pretend that they are in need. They take referrals from many local agencies, ranging from RBC Housing Department, Children’s Services, Home-Start and the Job Centre to charities such as Launchpad (Reading Single Homeless Project), CIRDIC (Churches in Reading Drop in Centre) and CCA  (Christian Community Action).
