Owner pleasedOwner Anton Zingarevich was very pleased that the club were able to secure six new faces early in the transfer window.
New signings Pavel Porgrebnyak, Danny Guthrie, Garath McCleary, Adrian Mariappa, Nicky Shorey and Chris Gunter were all signed in time to join the team on a 10-day camp in Portugal, vital for both team bonding and for training under our methods.
It was a deliberate strategy by Brian McDermott to have his deals done early, and Anton was pleased to be able to put the manager's plan into action.
Speaking in a video interview with Reading FC Player, Anton said, "I discussed it with Brian, the key was to get everybody in before the trip to Portugal and we managed to achieve that.
"We have added quality to our squad, we already had a good group but we have added a little extra to strengthen it.
"There is healthy competition within the squad now so we are in a good position."
Anton was also happy to see a good number of Royals fans out in the Algarve following the team and said, "The people really like football so they follow their teams wherever they go which is great to see. It is good for everybody – good for the players to realise that there is a lot of responsibility on them to perform."
