Royals goalkeeper Mikkel Andersen has played both full games out here in Portugal so far on this tour, a happy occurence for the Danish stopper who missed the end of last season with a knee injury.
The talented 23-year-old spoke to the official website about his efforts on the comeback trail.
Mikkel, how does it feel to get a couple of games under your belt?
It’s really nice; it has been a long wait to be fair. Even though it has been the off-season I have just been working hard in my ‘holidays’ or whatever you want to call it! That is what you get when you find yourself with an injury so close to the end of the season but I was fine with that because it gave me some extra time to make sure my knee was completely right. I picked up the injury in a reserve game against Arsenal, it was a freak accident during a challenge with Chamakh but that is just football for you.
I know it must be what you wanted but it must have been a surprise to get two full 90s in quick succession?
It has been a really good pre-season start for me as I have been involved a lot and been allowed to get back into the match routine which I am very pleased with. We’ve got great goalkeepers here with Alex McCarthy and Adam Federici along with some young lads coming through, I think Reading are blessed on that front and we make sure to keep pushing each other every day. We all have a great relationship like the ‘goalies union’ that is sometimes mentioned amongst the boys but that just shows we enjoy working with each other.
You're happy to be here and around the group but the chance to be out on loan would be something to consider too perhaps?
Reading has been great to me. I have been here for five and a half years and I have enjoyed every minute of it and I feel like I have developed as a keeper and as a person. Of course I want to show Reading fans and all those here that have trusted me that I can perform, when that chance comes up I will grab it with both hands, both legs and all my toes. The opportunity to play games has really been on my mind as I have a great feeling after getting into the game routine. I want to continue getting comfortable playing games, as that is what it is all about so hopefully that can happen very soon.
