GBDWF squad was established in 2000 and they are currently Great Britain Deaf Women's football squad was established in 2000 and they are currently preparing for Deaflympics 2013.
This is the biggest deaf sporting event and is similar to the Olympics/Paralympics. Deaf athletes cannot compete in the Paralympics unless they have an additional disability as they do not fall under any category.
However, it will cost £2000 per player in order to the fund flights, accommodation, transport, food, equipment and kit as well as accreditation, insurance and medical equipment for the games - so we need your support.
For players who study or work full time it is a very difficult task to raise that amount of money and, at the same time, ensure they train individually to ensure they are fit. For the previous Deaflympics in 2009, each player had to raise £3000 and also attended the European Deaf Football Championships 201, where they finished 3rd - which cost an additional £1500 per player.
Due to financial problems, they were unable to send the squad to the World Deaf Football Championships 2012 in Turkey. Great Britain Deaf Women currently have one player who was born in Reading, Claire Stancliffe. She has been involved for the past five years and is hoping to make the Deaflympics 2013 her 5th international competition.
