Australia U20s beat Qatar 1-0Royals youngster Ryan Edwards helped Australia U20s win their opening match of the AFC U19 Championships in United Arab Emirates.
Wearing the number 11 shirt, Edwards played the full 90 minutes as the Young Socceroos saw off the challenge of Quatar amid very humid conditions.
The Aussies drew 1-1 with Syria on Tuesday night, and will take on Saudi Arabia in their final group match on Thursday. The top two teams from each group of the AFC U-19 Championship 2012 will progress to the knockout stage (quarter-finals) and the four winners of the quarter-finals will then play in the semi-finals. The semi-finalists will also automatically qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup which will be held in Turkey in June/July 2013.
