Boss on funds
Royals boss Brian McDermott says that spending money is not always a guarantee of success.
As the Royals prepare to face QPR, Brian was asked about his transer budget and how he feels about other clubs' expenditure - but as always he preferred to focus solely on his own squad and working with the players he has, a strategy that has worked to great effect in his time as boss.
He said on Friday, "I don't want to go down that road of talking about other clubs. They spend what they spend and we spend what we spend. We do things our way and I work within the budget.
"If someone said to me in January here's ten or fifteen million, you still can't guarantee anything.
"People talk about money, but I work with the players we have here, quality people with a real spirit about them. Whatever money you are given or have got, there's no guarantees.
"We knew when we came into the League it's uneven, but everyone knows that. So we have to bring other qualities to the core. We have to have the best team ethic in the country, the best spirit.
"We have quality in the squad. The hardest thing in this league is to score goals, which we have done. It's easier to stop them going in, which we have to work in."
