Academy see off Rovers

2 October 2012

Blackburn u18s 1-3 Reading u18s

The Royals Academy got back on track with a 3-1 away win at Blackburn Rovers this past weekend.

Reading took the lead fifteen minutes in, as Uche Ikpeazu finished well at the back post after a swift attack down the flank.

The visitors made it two just before the break, with Dominic Hyam nodding home clinically after Rovers defender Antoine Boland had conceded a free-kick.

The home side did get a goal back on the stroke of half time, as Bradley Mason’s shot was saved well by Dan Lincoln – only for Deniz Pero to tap in the rebound for his second goal of the season.

Ironically, on the same day as Brian McDermott’s team were to be cruelly denied by the hand of Demba Ba – the Royals sealed the win in controversial fashion, as Tarique Fosu-Henry bundled home from close range after Blackburn failed to clear a set piece.

Rovers appealed strongly for the use of a hand, but nothing was given – and Eamonn Dolan’s men deservedly picked up their third win of the campaign.

Reading XI: Lincoln, Long, Griffin, Kuhl, Hyam, Cooper, Stacey, Kelly, Ikpeazu, Shama, Fosu-Henry (Murombedzi 70)
Subs: Ward, Amofah, Oliyide
