McDermott previews Liverpool clashA big crowd, an illustrious football club, another huge Premier League match - but Brian McDermott is preparing for this game like any other.
The Royals boss is relieved that his side are returning to action following the international break, and is confident that Reading can produce the goods at Anfield - again.
"Anywhere we go, we're confident that we can put on a performance," McDermott said. "That's what we're looking to do on Saturday - we'll go there and compete to the top of our game.
"We haven't played for a while so we're really looking forward to a run of games and getting our season going.
"We'll prepare as we always do - on the front foot. We know that they've got some terrific players - they've got their threats but so have we."
Saturday's match will present one or two blasts from the pasts - McDermott fondly reminisced the Royals' 2010 FA Cup triumph over Liverpool, and paid tribute to his former colleague Brendan Rogers - now at the Anfield helm.
"I remember the night really well. With about two minutes to go, Gylfi scored a fantastic penalty. We played really well in extra time and Shane got the winner.
"It's a different game and a different time now. I was at Anfield for their game against Stoke and it's a great place to play. You want to play at these places - it's a wonderful arena to play in.
"I worked with Brendan for ten years and I know him really well. He has his own style of football and did really well at Swansea.
"He's got a fantastic job now - Liverpool are one of the best clubs in the world and it's a great opportunity for him."
