McAnuff wants form to continue

Captain Jobi McAnuff says the squad will be going into the Liverpool match totally concentrated on the task ahead.

The winger, who helped the Royals knock the Merseysiders out of the FA Cup in 2010, is buoyed by many of Reading's performance so far this season and believes a win is just around the corner.

Brian McDermott's men return to action following the international break - and Jobi reckons a constant flow of fixtures is just what the Royals need.

"It's been a stop-start season so far - and we feel we're at our best with a run of games," the skipper told Reading FC Player.

"We tend to have more intensity about us and get more consistency playing once or twice a week. We've all got to step it up - when we do, we've been effective.

"As players, it's frustrating when you have weeks off. But now it's about carrying on the good form - if we can all play at the level that we can then we can cause problems.

"We've put ourselves in positions to win games - we'd be more concerned if we were getting hammered every week and not creating chances - but that's not the case.

"A win is a by-product of a good performance and if we keep performing the way we are, the wins will come."

As McAnuff weighed up his direct opponent for Saturday, likely to be England right back Glen Johnson, he also paid tribute to manager Brian McDermott - who, according to Jobi, has instilled a sense of calm among the squad.

"Most of the full backs in the Premier League will be a step above the Championship - for me it's about finding ways to be better than them.

"We're fortunate that we have a manager that doesn't get carried away - it's just another game of football for him, and it is for us.

"We'll be getting more press and attention for these sort of games but we'll be going into the game completely focused."
