D'Ath on rearranged U21 game
Hot prospect Lawson D'Ath says the U21s are ready to prove their worth against Bolton on Monday night.
After playing the full 90 minutes against a strong Arsenal side last Monday, Lawson is ready to do it all again as a youthful squad is set to travel to the North West for the rearranged fixture.
“It will mostly be the younger boys playing so it will be great for us to all get together and show what we could do," he said.
“It was a bit annoying when it was called off because we had to wait around in the hotel while it was raining - but all the boys are focused again and determined to get the job done."
The U21 leagues, introduced by the FA via the Elite Player Performance Plan this season, allows young players to develop alongside three selected overage outfield players and one overage goalkeeper.
Lawson is a big fan of the structure, and was overjoyed to have played against Arsenal's Jack Wilshere and Bacary Sagna last week.
“They’ve played against the best players in the world – the likes of Xavi and Iniesta. It’s crazy to think that they’ve done that and it was great for all of us to test ourselves against them.
"It was a good experience against Arsenal, and I had a few positive comments after the game on Twitter which was nice.
"It was also good to play with some of the senior boys. They know how it’s done and they give us the guidance to help us push on.
“The new under 21s system is great. It gives the younger players a chance to play against the more experienced players – that’s better for our development."
