Girls U17 star gets Northern Ireland nod

Reading FC Girls Academy U17s player Rachel Newborough has been called up to the Under 19s Northern Ireland squad.

Rachel, who is still only 15, impressed at her last training camp with the under 17s and will travel to Belfast this weekend.

She is set to join her Northern Ireland team mates for a squad training camp before flying out to Hungry with the team to compete in the Under 19s UEFA Championship Qualifiers.
Rachel will be in Hungry from Wednesday 17th October to Friday 26th October – and the Green and White Army will compete against Poland, Hungry and Lithuania during the qualification stages.
Kelly Chambers, Director of Women’s and Girl’s football at Reading FC, said, "This is a massive achievement for Rachel and Reading Football Club.

“Rachel is only 15 and being asked to travel with the under 19s squad to a huge success. Rachel has been at Reading for a number of years and has really grown and developed into a very high quality female footballer.

“It just shows that what we are doing within the women's and girls’ here at the club is a real success. The club and I are very proud of Rachel and wish her all the luck next week while she is away.”
