That's more like us!

Shorey positive ahead of Swansea

Nicky Shorey spoke with a wave of optimism as the defender looked back on two much-improved displays over the past week.

Like most people who saw Saturday's game, the left back felt the result didn't warrant the performance the Royals put in - but took solace in the improvements the side has made.

"We really dominated the second half," Shorey stated. "Their 'keeper made a fantastic save and Jobi hit the post - on another day one of those goes in.

"The last 15-20 minutes was really good end-to-end stuff. I'm sure the fans enjoyed it, but we're all disappointed not to get the three points.

"It wasn't a bad result against a team like Newcastle. We had a tentative start to the season but in the last two we've really gone for it - that's more like us.

"It was great to see Pardew - He's done a lot for me personally in my career so I've always got a lot of time for him. I respect him - he's a really nice man."

After a trio of games in the space of eight days, Swansea are Reading's next opponents - a side both the Royals and Shorey know a fair bit about.

"It's important to rest up now after having three games in a week - and I was lucky enough to play in all of of them. It's great to be playing out there again.

"We're recouping and getting ready for what will be a really tough away trip. I played there a couple times so I know it will be a tricky game."
