Lawson hits hat-trick

3 September 2012

Royals see off Norwich

Lawson D'Ath hit a hat-trick as Reading's under 21s earned a very good 3-0 win away to Norwich City on Tuesday afternoon.

The midfielder scored twice inside the first ten minutes to give Chris Cummins' team a great start, and he then added another late in the second half to seal three points on the road.

With a number of players away on international duty and also with the first team for our friendly in Ireland, Chris named a young side but they came up trumps against the Canaries, despite losing Craig Tanner to injury early on.

Reading: Henly; Arnold, Webb, Gunnarsson (c), Partridge; D'Ath, Tshibola, Taylor, Losasso; Samuel, Tanner (Ikpeazu 17, Oliyide 82)
Subs: Lincoln, Cooper, Jenkinson

Cummins said, "I thought we had a really good team shape, we moved the ball well and started the game very brightly. Bar Brynjar we had a very young team but scored a couple of early goals and good ones at that, Lawson finishing one-on-one. Lawson was a constant threat, he plays in the middle of the park and has got energy, all three goals came from getting into the box late and finishing well.

"Defensively we looked solid, Matt Partridge got his first start for the u21s and as I say we had a good shape at the back. Nick Arnold at right back has had three good games on the spin, Uche came on and got 70-odd minutes despite playing on Saturday for the under 18s so that was good for him. Norwich were unbeaten before today but that's two wins on the trot for us now."
