McCleary still positive

Garath looks to the Hawthorns

Garath McCleary has been reflecting on last weekend's clash with Spurs, but most importantly - preparing for a trip to the Hawthorns this Saturday.

Garath, it was always going to be tough against Spurs but I suppose it’s all about bouncing back now?
They are a very good team – we’ve seen that in years gone by in the Premier League. We were disappointed to concede three goals but hopefully we can bounce back at the weekend.

How hard was it to play such a classy side after not having a game in so long?
Yeah that didn’t help. There were the internationals and we had a game in Ireland too but it wasn’t quite at this standard. Hopefully we can take what we can out of this game and be ready for Saturday.

You picked up the Man of the Match award on Sunday for the second time this season – on a personal level you must feel that you have the potential to succeed in this league?
It’s nice to win that but as a team we’ve got to be better. To be honest, I wasn’t totally pleased with my own performance. But hopefully if we can do what we do in training on Saturday then we’ll do well.

West Brom are a side that have been promoted in recent years and stayed there – something that we are aspiring to achieve. How do you assess the game on Saturday?
They’re a very good team who have stayed in the league for some time now. Hopefully we can go there and battle and get the right result.

The mentality is something that has always shone through in Brian McDermott’s squad – I guess the mood around training is still positive?
Of course, we’re still positive. There were good things to take from Sunday - we were on top in the second-half until the second goal and were getting in behind Tottenham really well. If we have more of the same on Saturday, I’m sure we can get three points.
