Scholars introduced at Madejski
Alex Pearce, Jem Karacan, Hal Robson-Kanu and Simon Church are just a few former scholars of have gone on to become Premier League players – and the new crop of youngsters will be looking to emulate our current stars.
The new scholars are much admired by academy manager Eamonn Dolan and assistant manager David Dodds, who said, “They are a very bright group who have the potential to go on and do very well.
“They were very successful last season and have been well educated over the past couple of years thanks to Martin Kuhl and Martin Dean.
“We still work closely with Kuhl and now it’s just a case of fine tuning these young players.”
The new 2012/13 scholars include:
Jack Stacey - Bright player who is comfortable in several positions. Has already trained well and impressed in the development squad.
Rob Dickie - Tall central defender who is learning the game while playing as a regular member of the U18s Wednesday youth team.
Dominic Hyam - Talented centre-back who has the potential to develop well. Has played in the Saturday U18’s youth team and has done very well.
George McLennan - Pacey left-back who has been unlucky with injuries. Has started restricted training recently and hopes to play a big part in the season as soon as possible.
Tariqe Fosu - Tricky winger who can float inside and run at defenders. A young talent who has been ever-present in the U18s Saturday team.
Conor Shaughnessy – Irish starlet who has been waiting for his international clearance to come from the FA. Has played well in the Wednesday team and is learning to play at the quicker English tempo.
Aaron Kuhl - Has settled into his scholarship quickly playing consistently well for the Saturday U18s team and training well with the U21s development squad.
Liam Kelly - He is a fiery little player who can play in tight areas and compete. Liam has been ever present in the Saturday team showing good understanding.
Nana Owusu - Powerful left-sided winger who has played well at left-back to get game time this season. He runs with the ball at pace and has learnt the defensive side of the game.
Germaine Ofori – Speedy youngster who likes to take on full-backs and create chances. Has an excellent attitude towards learning the game.
Shpat Ismajli - Talented attacking midfielder who scores and create goals. Learning the game defensively and playing well for the Wednesday youth team.
De’Jaune Crossdale-Taylor – Versatile attacker who can play as a central striker but has also done well as a wide attacker. Has very quick feet and a good eye for goal.
Jack Jeffrey – Young starlet who has been unlucky with injuries. Has now started playing in the U18s Wednesday games to get back in the thick of it.
