A call from the captain

11 April 2013

"Nobody has given up"

Captain Jobi McAnuff says nobody at Hogwood Park has given up the fight, as the Royals prepare to welcome Liverpool to Madejski Stadium.

Despite a recent run of defeats the Jamaican international has called for his teammates to continue to show resilience ahead of the final six games of the season.

“Nobody has given up on anything,” said McAnuff.

“Before Saturday we needed four or five wins and it’s the same now, nothing has changed and we know what we have to do. Nobody has given up at all. We believe we can win games of football, this football club has been in the habit of doing that over the last few years and we hate losing. We want to rectify it.”

The winger has also backed manager Nigel Adkins to ensure the club has a bright future.

“The manager is very positive, it’s a tough situation for him to come into but he’s got a great track record, that speaks for itself. We now have to prove to him that we deserve to be here. He’s trying to implement his ideas onto the team, but those things will take a little bit of time. He’s got a very good record of getting teams promoted and putting them in better positions than when he took over. He’s got a good policy of bringing youngsters through the system as well, which will benefit the club looking forward. That’ll definitely benefit us in the long term.”

Tickets for this weekend's game are sold out. Supporters can still buy online with Viagogo. For more ticket information click here.
