Nigel: Why it takes time

2 April 2013

Boss reflects on first game

Boss Nigel Adkins began to put this stamp on the team in his first game at Arsenal on Saturday, and reaffirmed that it will of course take time for the players to get used to his demands.

Speaking to press after the game, he said he is trying to build on our previous successes, commenting, "We've asked the players to do a few things, not to negate the strengths the club has had in the past, and it won't happen overnight.

"Some of the lads came back in only for half a session on Friday, but that's the challenge we've had and the same for so many clubs.

"We have a game underneath our belts now, we'll take the lessons from it looking forward to an important home game."

We take on Southampton this Saturday at Madejski Stadium in a mouth-watering encounter, kick off 12:45pm. The boss is certain our fans will play their part against the Saints.

He said, "The supporters will get behind the club and the players because it's important. We'll work as hard as we can to give ourselves the chance to get the required points. These players desperately want to do well.

"There shouldn't be any easy games in this division. That's been shown over the season and there's always a coupon buster."
