Royals boss on a hard earned victory
Nigel Adkins praised his Reading side for grinding out an admirable 1-0 win over Yeovil Town on Saturday afternoon.
Adam Le Fondre’s second half penalty proved to be the difference between the two sides, in a game which in all honestly was very evenly matched.
“Come the end of the season when we look at the fixtures we’ll turn around and say three points, clean sheet,” he said.
“You’ve got to work hard, you’ve got to grind away and you need a squad of players that can go out Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday – at different stadiums, different facilities, different pitches, different environments and grind out those wins. Today we did that. After the week we’ve had it was great for the supporters.”
The impending international break often signals a frustrating loss of momentum, but the Royals have the advantage of a home game to look forward to next weekend – an international challenge match with Oman.
“We’ve got a group of players who go away on international duty, so we have an opportunity to integrate the first team players and the under 21s on the training ground. We look forward to a game next weekend against Oman. Instead of having a long period of inactivity we have a game, at the stadium, it’s going to be great for the supporters to come down and see us compete against the international team.”
