Anton on transfers

6 August 2013

"We will have a strong squad"

Royals owner Anton Zingarevich is pleased with the current strength of the squad, and says there's still time for transfer activity before the window shuts on September 2nd.

Nigel Adkins' men have real quality all over the pitch, bolstered by three new signings and a number of contract renewals, and Anton believes we are stronger than we were last season in the Barclays Premier League.

"Firstly we’ve added to the squad, bringing in Royston Drenthe, Wayne Bridge and Danny Williams - all international players who have already done so much in their careers," he said in his programme notes of 'The Royal'.

"Royston is going to be very exciting and great to watch; his pedigree speaks for itself and he is working very hard, getting up to speed with the level of fitness Nigel Adkins needs from his players. Wayne was in the Championship Team of the Year last season and we fought off a number of clubs to get him here. And Danny is an international midfielder with many, many great years ahead of him.

"We also signed Alex Pearce and Hal Robson-Kanu on new contracts and there is still some time for more new players to arrive before the transfer window closes on Monday 2nd September.

"The squad is quite big right now and bids may come in for some of our players, but we will definitely have a strong squad this year - perhaps even stronger than last season in the Premier League. That will be vital if we are to achieve our aim, which is to get promoted and, if possible, win the title."
