Blackman on 'fresh start'

Striker on first goal for the Royals

Striker Nick Blackman is relishing a ‘fresh start’ with the club, after scoring his first goal for the Royals on Saturday afternoon.

The 23-year-old coolly slotted home a 51st minute penalty at the Reebok Stadium, and was praised by manager Nigel Adkins after the clash.

“I’m delighted to get the goal and a good point away from home to keep up ticking over,” said Nick.

“It was difficult for me at the back end of last season, I just had to grind it out, and now it feels like a fresh start for me here this season. I’m really enjoying it, I had a really good pre-season – so now it’s onwards and upwards. It was really difficult playing against Wheather and Knight who have got a few Premier League games between them, I was a bit isolated in the first half, but in the second half we really kicked on and looked like a whole different team.”

Blackman also praised the influence of Royston Drenthe, who caused numerous problems for the Trotters in the second period.

“We got Royston on the ball in the number 10 position, for me personally I thought he was fantastic. I thought he had an outstanding game. Garath McCleary and Jobi put in great shifts too. In the end the boys were disappointed not to get all three points, but to come back from behind shows fantastic character.”
