Boss plans changes

27 August 2013

Adkins' cup approach

Manager Nigel Adkins will make changes to his team for tonight's Capital One Cup game away to Peterborough United - and has challenged his players to take the opportunity given to them.

The match is the second of three away fixtures this week, and with a strong squad at his disposal the boss will give starts to a number of fresh faces.

He will demand that this evening's XI grasp the chance they have been presented with, saying, "When they get out on the pitch they’ve got to make sure they capitalise on it.

"We’ve got some excellent players here and some players who might be on the sidelines, but they can make an impact when they come in. It’s about the whole group that we’ve got, not just about the 11.

"We’ve got three away games this week and some of the players who haven’t been playing might get that opportunity.

"If you want to be successful you to have a squad and competition. Every week since we started the season we've had [people outside saying] 'oh he's not involved' or 'oh he's only on the bench' and if you want to be a team challenging then you need that.

"You need people outside saying 'they've got a strong squad' and you've got to deal with injuries, suspensions and three games a week.

"You need people to go and perform."

Listen to tonight's game live on Reading FC Player, kick off 7:45pm.

Meanwhile, Posh boss Darren Ferguson will also use his full squad, saying, "I will definitely look to make changes against Reading. We have a squad and I have to utilise it. Jack Payne will definitely be involved so I may look to give Grant a rest in midfield.

"Mark Little was excellent when he came on so I could switch Craig Alcock to left-back and play him at right back. I have to be careful with Kgosi because he is a young lad and has been out for a long while in the past, so I need to take that into consideration."
