Guthrie: Make it a fortress

2 August 2013

"Home form is going to be vital"

Midfielder Danny Guthrie has called on Royals supporters get behind the team this Saturday, as we aim to make Madejski Stadium a real fortress for this 2013/14 Sky Bet Championship season.

Nigel Adkins' men start the season at home to Ipswich Town, and tickets are still available to buy for the 3pm kick off.

"It's always nice to start the season off with a home game and have our fans behind us," Guthrie told Reading FC Player.

"It will be massive to have the fans behind us once again. Our home form is going to be vital this year if we want to get promoted.

"It's somewhere where we should make our own and make it really difficult for teams to come - and the crowd can play a big part in that."

Danny is pleased that our pre-season preparations are now complete and added that the Royals are a lot stronger now with the additions of Royston Drenthe, Wayne Bridge and Danny Williams.

"It's nice to get pre-season out of the way, and this week has been less physical and more tactical which is what we need ahead of the game.

"We've got great competition for places - and if we want to get promoted then we need to keep everyone on their toes. With those three we've added real quality in different areas, and we're a much different team to last season."
