Jem: "Squad is important"

Karacan on Peterborough test

Jem Karacan has emphasised the importance of strength in depth, ahead of tonight's Capital One Cup tie at Peterborough United.

The Royals travel to London Road this (Tuesday) evening for the second round of the League Cup competition, and Jem is wary of the threat that Posh will pose.

"It's going to be a very hard game - going to Peterborough is never easy. They've started this season flying, they've got some great players and I think they'll do well in League One this season.

"I've played Peterborough many times and it's never been an easy game. They've been our bogey team away from home over the years - they've got some great players in (Lee) Tomlin and (Tyrone) Barnett."

Coming off the back of Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Blackpool, Karacan believes a win tonight would give the Royals a huge confidence boost ahead of this weekend's Sky Bet Championship game at Yeovil Town.

"We want to get a win under our belts as soon as possible. We want to go to Peterborough, get a win and a clean sheet. Then come back home and be prepared for Yeovil - a win would be a big confidence boost.

"We've got a big squad here and there'll be players pushing for the shirts after the defeat, which is what we need. The whole squad is so important to us with everyone pushing each other. I'm sure there'll be few people itching to prove themselves on Tuesday night."
