"I had an opportunity to stay at Liverpool, or go to Tranmere Rovers. I had more chance of getting in the first team at Tranmere than you'd ever dream of at Liverpool.
"So I went to Tranmere Rovers. I used to watch them on a Friday evening - that was my local team. They played on a Friday night because Liverpool and Everton would be on the Saturday.
"As a youngster, you go down, get in the corner, and after the game you'd run on the pitch and you'd try and get Ronnie Moore's or Steve Coppell's tie-ups! Everyone would be on the pitch trying to get them."
