Ludlow joins women's set up

30 August 2013

High profile appointment for the Royals

Reading FC Women are delighted to announce the prestigious signing of Jayne Ludlow as Director of Women's and Girls Football and First Team Manager.

Jayne takes charge of the Royals after an incredible playing career, in which she picked up a string of trophies including nine Premier League National Division titles, eight FA Women’s Cups and a Champions League winner’s medal.

The 34-year-old also boasts 61 caps to her name in a sixteen year international career that saw her captain Wales on a number of occasions, whilst her hugely successful spell with Arsenal Ladies saw the midfielder voted as the FA Players’ Player of the Year on three separate occasions.

Jayne also spent time with Millwall Lionesses, Southampton Saints and American side New York Magic.

“It feels fantastic to be here, I’ve been looking forward to it since the opportunity first came up,” said Jayne.

“I’ve got to thank everyone for bringing me here. I’m prepared to work hard and I’m just hoping the players are prepared to work as hard as I am – because then hopefully we’ll have success.”

Women’s General Manager Kelly Chambers was also delighted with the move.

“We said from the start if there was anyone we would get in, it would be someone that had vast experience in the game and that was a name that is known throughout the country,” she said.

“If we bring all that Jayne has achieved in the game as a player together with her coaching knowledge, that is just great for the players. We want to develop the women’s game and women’s football here at the club, our objective is to get to Super League One, progress, and try and be one of the top clubs in the country.”

Reading have been officially voted into the newly formed Super League 2, with the first team's campaign starting in April Fixtures will be announced shortly.
