Ready for the challenge

Adkins previews Bolton test

Nigel Adkins says the Royals will have a desire to pick up three points when they take on Bolton Wanderers at the Reebok Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The manager and his staff have of course done their homework on tomorrow's hosts, and Adkins is expecting a challenging fixture.

"We were out and about in midweek because there’s a lot of fixtures to go and watch, that’s important to try and do your homework as much as you can," he said.

"Bolton are an excellent side - they finished last season ever so strongly and just missed out on the playoffs. They’ve had a period of time to adjust to the new manager, they’ve got some players who have been in the Premier League and the football club has been in the Premier League.

"They expect to be back there as soon as possible, so we know going there is going to be a challenging fixture. All teams are going to have their threats physically, you’ve got to deal with the set plays and the ability that they’ve got. They’ve got several players who are all going to have a threat in their own way but what we’ve got to do is to go up there with a mindset to win a game of football."

After registering our first win of the season against Ipswich, the manager is determined for us to get off the mark away from home at the first attempt.

"We had a good pre-season and we'll be buoyed by our first win of the campaign. Now can we go away from home and get three points?

"It will be a tough test but we've got to make sure it's a tough test for Bolton. They drew their first game so they'll be looking to get their first win under their belts.

"We'll go up there and have a positivity about we we do. We know it's going to be a challenge but we've got to make it challenging for Bolton and have a desire to get the three points."
