'Royston will be magical'

4 August 2013

Adkins on new addition

Boss Nigel Adkins has tipped Royston Drenthe to work his magic in the SkyBet Championship this season - and will keep working with the Dutchman to get his fitness levels at 100%.

The winger got the Madejski Stadium crowd on their feet in our opening day win over Ipswich, and received a great reception when replaced by Jobi McAnuff.

Adkins said, "He's a crowd pleaser, he's lively and if you get him on the ball he will cause trouble for the opposition."

The winger only played a handful of games in Russia last season after being hampered through injury, and the boss continued, "We're still looking to improve on his levels of fitness, but as a side we looked fit for the first day of the season and that's important.

"But Royston is going to excite the fans and be a massive threat to the opposition. He is going to do some magical things.

"The three new players contributed in a big way. Danny Williams came on and made an impact, Wayne Bridge made his debut.

"We want to entertain and get supporters off their feet."
