Tabby's Reading return

5 August 2013

Ex-Royal on finding the net

Jay Tabb thanked the Royals supporters after receiving an excellent reception on his return to Madejski Stadium.

It was almost written in the stars as the former Reading midfielder opened the scoring for Ipswich in our opening day fixture - despite not finding the net in 105 appearances for the Royals!

"I play in a slightly different position here than I did at Reading," Tabb explained to Reading FC Player. "I nicked a goal in my loan spell last season and the aim for this season is to score some goals.

"My time at Reading was an amazing four and a half years - the only thing that was missing was some goals for the club. I was hoping to get a goal just to show the fans I can score! I had to be careful with my celebrations, but it was nice to score."

The Royals faithful gave Tabby an excellent greeting on his return, and Jay believes Nigel Adkins' men can achieve big things this season.

"I was delighted (with the Reading fans). I got a really good reception when I was warming up and during the game so I'd like to thank the fans, the staff and everyone at Reading.

"It was strange because I didn't really get the chance to come back and say goodbye last season - so Saturday was a goodbye and a thank you to the club. The highlight of my career was at Reading but it's time to move on now - the club are moving in a different direction and so am I.

"There weren't too many chances in the game, and it's always like that on the first game of the season. Reading showed what a disciplined side they were and got the win.

"They've probably got two XIs that could finish in the top six - you'd like to think they are going to be right up there. When you look at the wingers they've got, it's crazy really. If we finish one above Reading then I think we'll have done very well."
