Baird & Drenthe

1 December 2013

Boss on injuries

The Royals will be without Chris Baird for a few weeks after he twisted his ankle in training, while Royston Drenthe is closer to being involved; having travelled with the team to Forest on Friday.

Baird had started every game since joining on a short term contract, but will now be on the sidelines.

The boss explained, "Like every team we've got injuries. You just have to deal with it, that's why you have a squad and youth team players.

"We've picked up another one, Chris blocked a shot and twisted his ankle, which is a shame and he'll be a few weeks."

Drenthe has been out for nearly 11 weeks with a foot problem picked up in the home match against Leeds, but is getting close to a return.

Adkins said, "Royston travelled with us on Friday, which is great. He did some work on the pitch afterwards so all being well he's closer to a level of fitness that's required, even to come off the bench.

"But he's been with the group and with the party, which is really, really beneficial for everybody."

Also out injured at the moment are Wayne Bridge, Sean Morrison, Jem Karacan and Jason Roberts, while Mikele Leigertwood played 45 minutes for the under 21s last week. In addition, Chris Gunter is suspended for Tuesday's game with Charlton.
