Clubs to honour Mandela

6 December 2013

Royals to hold minute's applause

The Royals can confirm they will join their Football League counterparts in holding a minute's applause to celebrate the life of Nelson Mandela prior to the game with Bournemouth this Saturday.

Football League Chief Executive, Shaun Harvey, said: “Nelson Mandela was an inspiration to millions and his determination, courage and forgiveness marked him out as a truly great man.  We are delighted to give clubs and their supporters the opportunity to pay their own tributes to Nelson Mandela and recognize his extraordinary legacy.”

A number of Reading players have taken to social media to pay their own personal tributes over the last 24 hours, whilst we have also shared some fantastic images of Wayne Bridge and Stuart Taylor meeting the great man himself - sent to us by Manchester City FC.
