Halford up front

31 December 2013

Former Royals return

Our next opponents Nottingham Forest have four former Royals on their books, and three of them could line up against us on New Year's Day.

Greg Halford is currently leading the line up front for Forest, and he has rewarded his manager with two goals in two games against QPR and then Leeds. The 29-year-old spent six months with Reading in 2007, playing 2(+1) games in the Premier League.

Darius Henderson is suspended after a recent red card, the 32-year-old being dismissed against Birmingham. The striker spent four years in the first team at Madejski Stadium, scoring 11 goals along the way.

Fellow frontman Simon Cox is available, and came off the bench in Forest's 2-1 win over Leeds at the weekend. Tilehurst-born Simon came through our Academy ranks here at Madejski Stadium and made nine appearances from the bench.

One-time Reading loanee Dan Harding was on the bench for Forest's recent win over Leeds, and he played five games for us back in 2009, including both legs of the play-off defeat to Burnley. He also played under Nigel Adkins at Southampton before moving to the City Ground.

The Royals have three former Forest men in their ranks, with good friends Chris Gunter and Garath McCleary both joining in the summer of 2012 from the City Ground. In addition, Billy Sharp spent last season on loan with Forest.

The game kicks off at 3pm on New Year's Day, and tickets are cheaper when bought any time before midday on the day of the game. Call 0844 249 1871, go to www.readingfcdirect.co.uk or visit the Ticket Office in person.
