'He's got a great future'

Adkins on McCarthy

Manager Nigel Adkins has again backed Alex McCarthy to have a great career in the game.

The boss has spoken regularly about Alex's fantastic attributes, and the 24-year-old again put in a very good display at Huddersfield this past weekend.

Adkins said, "For me, Alex is a top four keeper.

"The only thing he needs to improve is his distribution, which we talk about. Picking the pass, playing from the back, which is about getting to be a top four goalkeeper.

"His shot-stopping is outstanding, his command of coming and catching crosses is outstanding. He can certainly kick it and his distribution is good, we're just talking about the top, top level.

"By staying with us and keep improving on that, he's got a great future in store."

Asked about Alex's chances with the England squad, Nigel said, "He travelled with England to Brazil in the summer, he has to be in their mindset.

"He's playing reguarly, which is important, especially for a goalkeeper. We want to play from the back, so he can only benefit from being with us.

"All he can do is control the controllables and keep playing well. Everyone else will talk about it, but he's a confident lad in a good side."
