Morrison seals new deal

10 December 2013

Sean now a Royal until 2017!

The Royals are delighted to announce that 22-year-old centre-back Sean Morrison has signed a new contract with the Royals this afternoon.

The towering centre back has penned a deal which now runs until the summer of 2017 - on a day which also saw Jordan Obita sign a new contract and youngsters Aaron Kuhl and Jack Stacey sign their professional terms with the club.

“It’s wicked! We’ve been talking about it now since the end of last season and it feels great to finally get it done and now I can concentrate on getting fit and getting back in the team,” Morrison said.

“Captaining the side this year has probably been my greatest achievement in football and I want to be back out there as soon as possible.”

At just 22 years of age Morrison has established himself as a first team regular at Madejski Stadium, with more than 100 career appearances already under his belt across the Football League and Premier League.

His impressive form and leadership qualities have also seen Morro deputise for Jobi McAnuff as skipper on a number of occasions this season, although he is currently recovering from a knee injury.

“I’m really pleased to get this deal done,” said Director of Football Nick Hammond. “It’s reward for Sean and the progress that he’s made in the last 18 months.

“He’s an excellent young English centre half and they are highly sought after. Prior to his injury, he had become a regular in the first team this season and he has also worn the captain’s armband for a number of games.

“The focus for him now is hard work, getting back from his injury and taking the next step. At 22, he’s still very young in centre-half terms and, with a lot of hard work on the training pitch he can improve and progress further as a player.”
