Obita: "A great feeling"

2 December 2013

Youngster bags his first for the Royals

Jordan Obita has spoken of his pride at firing home the first goal of his Reading career on Friday evening.

The 19-year-old Academy product slammed home the winner at the City Ground in a dramatic encounter with Nottingham Forest, and was all smiles as he spoke to the press after the game.

"It felt good to get the winning goal, it was just a great feeling," said Obita.

"I'm really proud. At the start of the season I didn't expect to play as many games as this, but I think I've shown the manager what I can do. We wanted to show the fans who traveled up on Friday how good we were - we want to push for promotion, and keep getting better and better."

Still a teenager, Obita has now scored goals for four different clubs - including in League Two, League One and the Championship. He previously found the net in loan spells with Portsmouth and Gillingham, and of course scored a noteable FA Cup goal for Oldham against Everton earlier this year. Friday was his sixth career goal in total.

"I find I tend to go on a run of goals after I get my first, which I'm hoping happens now. That's what I want to do -  I want to score goals for this club. I'm going to treasure my match shirt from Friday, nobody will take it off me - that'll go in a frame!"
