Adkins on Jordan
Nigel Adkins showed his deep-thinking approach when using his full squad for our midweek win over Charlton.
The manager thought carefully about a number of different scenarios, and he decided to put Jordan Obita on the bench to cover any defensive requirements.
The boss gave an insight into his thought process, saying, “I always talk about the whole squad and everyone contributing. I put Jordan on the bench to cover the defensive situation; he didn’t really deserve to be out of the team.
“But I went through the 'what if' scenarios and we talked about it. I've got Kells at right back and Shaun at left back, Pearcey and Kaspars at centre half and that's it from a defensive point of view at the club. Even young Niall Keown picked up an injury.
“So if something happened to anyone in the back four, I had Jordan to go to left back and adjust the other players.
“I also had Jobi McAnuff champing at the bit to play, and he contributed, so it's about the whole squad helping navigate through a demanding season, especially coming up to Christmas.
“The players are really pushing each other, which I'm delighted about.”
