Royals in the World Cup

6 December 2013

Potential games for our players

The draw for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil was made on Friday afternoon, with a number of Royals players learning their potential opponents at the tournament.

Alex McCarthy - England
As we all now know, the Three Lions will face Italy, Uruguay, and Costa Rica in Brazil next summer. Apart from Costa Rica's Bryan Luiz, Alex McCarthy has yet to concede a goal against a full international player from one of these countries - to our memory!

Danny Williams - USA
Reading's American midfielder, who was born and raised in Germany, could come up against the Germans in Brazil. The States, who are managed by Germany legend Jürgen Klinsmann, have also been drawn against Ghana and Portugal.

Pavel Pogrebnyak - Russia
If he can get back into Fabio Capello's, squad our big Russian could face Belgium, Algeria, Russia and South Korea. Pavel last played for his national at the European Championship in 2012.

Adam Federici - Australia
Our goalkeeper will be working hard to get back into the Australian fold, especially considering experienced stopper Mark Schwarzer has retired from international football. The Aussies will face Spain, Netherland and Chile in Group A.
