Shaun shines on return

Cummings on clean sheet

Shaun Cummings was thrilled to have helped the Royals to three points and a clean sheet on Tuesday night against Charlton Athletic.

The reliable defender put in a solid performance at left back as Nigel Adkins' men came out on top in a gritty affair at Madejski Stadium.

"I felt good after the game, he said. "It's even better when you get a win and a clean sheet - that's what inspired my legs to keep going!

"We go into the game with a game plan and we know what we have to do to win the game, which we showed against Charlton.

"The fans will want to see entertaining football because that's what they pay their money for, and we're on the pitch to do a job - that's our main focus. The fans will be happy that we came away with a win and a clean sheet."

Cummings had praise for match-winner Billy Sharp, scoring his first goal on his full debut, and believes the Royals have a strong enough squad to go the distance this season.

"He's a quality striker - you saw that in the strike he produced. He's done it wherever he's gone, he can definitely do a job for our team as well.

"We've got a good squad, and if someone needs to come in we know they can perform for the team and do well. Hopefully that will be the case for the rest of the season as we try and finish in the top two."
