Women sign Ward

1 December 2013

Fantastic signing for Royals

Reading FC Women have pulled off a huge coup in the transfer market, with the signing of Wales' record all time scorer Helen Ward.

Ward (née Lander) joins the Royals from Chelsea Ladies, and the striker has had a prolific career both at club and international level - scoring 30 times in 50 international appearances for her country.

She began her career at Watford, before joining the prestigious set up at Arsenal - where the forward picked up two Women's FA Cup winners medals. She then joined Chelsea in 2010 - again reaching the FA Cup Final, and scoring in the showpiece event - only to finish on the losing side on that occasion.

"I've trained with the girls for the last four or five weeks and I've loved every minute," Ward told Reading FC Player

"We've got some good players in the squad, a really young side and the signings Jayne has brought in have added experience to that. I'm excited to lead what will hopefully be a promotion challenge."

Reading FC Women manager Jayne Ludlow has expressed her delight at the capture.

"I played alongside Helen for Wales and for she is a fantastic centre forward. She scored a few goals in the WSL1 last year but we didn't see the best of her. I'm hoping myself and my coaches will get the best out of her again - if she's happy and she's on form she will score goals "

Exclusive interviews with Helen and Jayne will be available on Reading FC Player in the coming days.
