Brian: Award for everyone

6 February 2013

Boss heaps praise on his players

Royals boss Brian McDermott paid homage to his players and staff after being names Barclays Manager of the Month.

This is Brian’s first award at Premier League level, and is fully deserved recognition after a superb turnaround in form.

He said, “It’s fantastic to win it and the most important thing is that the team and staff have done a fantastic job. And the bigger picture is that we’ve got a lot more points and given ourselves a real chance.

“We are competitive in every single game and we’ve learned a lot in a short space of time. We’ve changed a lot of things in the last six weeks to find a way to win. We’ve hung in games, played good football, and the players deserve credit. We need to keep doing it in February as well. People talk about what happens when you win manager of the month – but I knew I’d won before the Sunderland game and we’ve already won our first game in the month!

“I am only picking up this award, it’s on behalf of everyone at the club. If you look at Adam Le Fondre as well, he won the Player of the Month , so it is a fantastic achievement for everyone at Reading Football Club and all of the players. We know we are not the biggest club in this league but I do know that we have got big hearts here. We are doing the best we possibly can every day for our fans to make sure that we do ourselves justice.

“Everyone can go through that list of players and the managers speak for themselves. When you are in the company of managers and players such as them then we all have to be proud of what we have accomplished.

“We’re doing things the best we can and we think we’re doing it as a credit to the League, we’ve done it the Reading way. We enjoy all of it, we enjoy the challenges and we want to be in the Barclays Premier League next season. I know there’s more to come from our players as well.”
