Confidence key for Kelly

21 February 2013

Defender on making home form count

Defender Stephen Kelly feels that the Royals must take full advantage of their home fixtures in the Barclays Premier League - with Wigan Athletic next to visit Madejski Stadium.

Kelly says that narrow defeats at Stoke City and Manchester United - either side of the squad's warm-weather training trip to Dubai - haven't dampened spirits ahead of Saturday.

"It was a good trip in Dubai and it was almost like a mini pre-season for the us new boys to settle in," Stephen said. "We were in close quarters so it was good to get to know everyone - and it was a good exercise.

"The loss to Stoke was a bit disappointing - I thought we could have got something out of it, especially towards the end of the game. I thought we put up a very good performance up at Man United on Monday, so our confidence is high and playing at home we've got to be confident that we're going to get a result.

And although the right back is wary of Wigan's attacking prowess, Kelly is confident that the Royals can produce the goods at Madejski Stadium.

"Obviously it's a very important game for us, we've built up a lot of confidence over the past couple of months. Especially with the run of from we've been in, we've got to make the most of our home games and this is a very important match of us.

"Wigan are a good side - they attack very well. They play with three at the back which is a bit different to most Premier League teams so there are areas that we can hopefully expose."
