5pm: Brian still trying

31 January 2013

Boss remains in the hunt

As of 5pm, Royals boss Brian McDermott remained in the market for one more signing in this transfer window.

He told TalkSPORT, "I'm still here at the club and waiting on phone calls. We are trying, let's put it that way.

"Normally at this time on deadline day I'm at home! But I'm still here, so that's a positive. We've got something we are trying to do.

"We are waiting on an answer, I'm enjoying it and I would be very excited if we can do this deal."

Brian was also asked about Adam Le Fondre playing for England, and said he spoke to assistant boss Ray Lewington today.

The boss commented, "I spoke to Ray this morning, he was at the game last night and I don't see any reason why Adam Le Fondre can't play for his country.

"He finishes when he gets a chance. He couldn't have been under any more pressure there but he produced. I'm not saying he can only score from the bench, I would never ever say that.

"I'm not picking Roy Hodgson's team, but I would say Alfie could score for England from the bench or score for any team. His record is phenomenal."
