A message of thanks

19 January 2013

Fans show superb support

Reading Football Club would like to wholeheartedly thank the 1,068 fans who travelled up to Newcastle to support the Royals on Tyneside on Saturday afternoon.

Weather conditions across the country were treacherous but as ever our supporters were terrific in their loyalty and made plenty of noise at St James' Park.

"The best part of the day for me was going over to the fans at the end," manager Brian McDermott said after the win.

"I cannot believe how many people made it here. I was shocked, what with the weather conditions.

"I hate going over to applaud the fans when we lose because we know we haven't given them what they want. But no matter the result today, they deserved all our respect. We wanted to acknowledge the effort every one of them made to be here today.

"We had such great support again during the game. I hope that they've enjoyed themselves and that they all get home safely."

We sincerely hope that everybody has a safe journey home – and look forward to welcoming you all back to Madejski Stadium next weekend for the visit of Sheffield United.
