Jem's FA Cup honour

4 January 2013

Karacan wants success in 'great competition'

Jem Karacan has described the FA Cup is one of the best competitions in the world - and wants nothing less than to come back from Sussex with Reading's name still in the hat for the fourth round.

League One Crawley Town stand in way of the Royals' endeavors and will provide stiff opposition according to Jem - who is naturally delighted to have returned to the side after recovering from his knee injury.

"I missed nearly three months of football which was horrible watching from the stands as the boys play week in week out," he said to Reading FC Player. "But to come back into the team and pick up a couple of positives results is great for both me and the team.

"It was a tough few games over the Christmas period, but I think we did quite well and it'll be another tough game on Saturday."
Jemba has a close connection with the tournament as he scored at the age of 18 for Bournemouth at Barrow in a first-round tie, and shone for the Royals over two FA Cup third round ties against Liverpool in 2010. The Turk also can't wait to be reunited with a certain Steve Coppell - who gave the Turk his first chance in a Reading shirt.

"It's a big game for us in the FA Cup - it's a great competition and one of the best in the world so we'll be looking for a good result," he added.

"I scored for Bournemouth five years ago at Barrow away, which sums up the FA Cup! It wasn't a great goal but if I'm playing tomorrow hopefully I can get another.

"He gave me my debut when I was just 18 against Luton in the Carling Cup, and I'm just glad I've gone on to play many more games. It'll be really nice to go down there and see him again."
